Cheryl Welsch
Director of Information Technology, Sullivan
Responsibilities:
Serving as the Director of Information Technology since 2013, Cheryl provides leadership for all information technology services at Sullivan. She serves on the President’s Cabinet and is a member of the college’s Strategic Planning and Institutional Assessment Committee.
Credentials and Experience:
Cheryl is proud to claim two Sullivan AAS degrees, a bachelor degree from SUNY Cobleskill, and an MBA in IT Management from Western Governors University.
In her time with the college, she has run the computer lab, taught as an adjunct, worked as an academic advisor, trained faculty and staff, participated on numerous committees, and served as a member of the IT staff and management.
Cheryl is passionate about people, something you can’t say about all IT directors. That passion is shown in how she conceives of the mission of IT: it is, as she says, not just about technology. It is about helping people learn to use technology in ways that make them both more effective and more confident in themselves.
That’s led her to streamline processes, seek simple solutions, and help hundreds – sometimes with snacks – in both group and one-on-one sessions. Her work in the community might be less visible, but equally important to Cheryl and to the college. She works with the Empowering Women task force of the Professional Women of Sullivan County, she cofounded a nationally recognized, non-profit investor education website, the Mutual Fund Observer, and she has, much to her son’s horror, performed in The Vagina Monologues.
Leadership and Honors:
Cheryl was a recipient of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service in 2010 and the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award in 2007.
