Staffing and Workforce Development

  • SUNY Shared Services Alignment – ITEC, SICAS, and system-wide service opportunities
  • Recruitment and retention of IT leadership and critical roles across SUNY
  • Professional development through SUNY conferences (STC, ITEC Wizard, SICAS Summit)
  • Mentorship and peer network development for new and emerging CIOs

Outcomes:

  • Establish at least 2 shared service or collaborative staffing initiatives across SUNY
  • Achieve 75% participation from CCIO members in at least one annual professional development or mentorship activity

Cybersecurity and Risk Management

  • SUNY SOC and ITEC Security Services engagement and expansion of shared cybersecurity services
  • Cybersecurity maturity and resilience assessments across campuses
  • Incident response coordination and communication practices
  • Alignment with SUNY Security Policy, NIST, and industry best practices

Outcomes:

  • 100% of campuses complete a cybersecurity maturity or resilience assessment within the cycle
  • Increase participation in SUNY SOC, ITEC Security Services or shared cybersecurity services year over year

Enterprise Systems and Digital Strategy

  • Data Strategy and Governance (including Global ID and data integration)
  • ERP / SIS strategy and modernization planning across SUNY
  • Digital Transformation initiatives and shared technology investments
  • Microsoft and enterprise software contract optimization

Outcomes:

  • Document and publish a SUNY-wide position or guidance on ERP/SIS and data strategy
  • Identify and advance at least 2 system-level shared technology or contract optimization opportunities

Infrastructure and Operations

  • Network resilience, redundancy, and disaster recovery planning
  • Cloud strategy and shared infrastructure opportunities
  • Classroom and academic technology modernization (including hybrid/HiFlex)
  • Identity and access management evolution

Outcomes:

  • Develop and share a baseline set of recommended practices for network resilience and disaster recovery
  • Increase the number of campuses implementing modern classroom or hybrid learning technologies

AI, Innovation, and Emerging Technology

  • Evaluation and governance of AI solutions across SUNY
  • Ethical, responsible, and accessible use of AI
  • Shared AI infrastructure and research opportunities (e.g., GPU, NYSERNet, Internet2)
  • Innovation pilots and cross-campus collaboration

Outcomes:

  • Establish and publish CCIO guidance on AI use, governance, and risk considerations
  • Support at least 2 cross-campus AI or innovation pilot initiatives

CCIO Community and Engagement

  • Onboarding program for new CIOs (resources, orientation, connections)
  • Centralized collaboration space (e.g., Viva/Teams) for CCIO materials
  • Maintenance of CCIO communication channels (listservs, working groups)
  • Strengthening collaboration with SUNY System and peer organizations

Outcomes:

  • Continue to refine onboarding process for all new CCIO members
  • Maintain active engagement (measured by participation or contributions) across core communication channels

Advocacy and Strategic Alignment

  • Representation of CCIO priorities within SUNY system initiatives
  • Alignment with SUNY strategic plan and campus needs
  • Identification and communication of system-wide IT challenges and opportunities
  • Support for funding initiatives and shared investments

Outcomes:

  • Present CCIO priorities or recommendations to SUNY System leadership at least annually
  • Identify and communicate at least 2 system-wide IT challenges with proposed solutions or actions
