Dean of Library & Information Technology Services and Chief Information Officer, SUNY Plattsburgh

Holly-Heller-Ross Responsibilities:

Serving as Dean and CIO since 2012, Holly coordinates the Library & Information Technology Services (LITS) budget, strategic and operational planning, personnel, professional development, assessment, all library and technology support services and programs, services to branch campus and extension sites, disaster recovery planning, campus-wide e-learning, technology project management, e-discovery, information security, and legal compliance for information and technology services, manages the student technology fee and guides LITS alignment with campus and SUNY-wide missions. Credentials and Experience:

She holds the B.A. in Environmental Science from Plattsburgh and an M.L.S. from SUNY Albany. She worked as a public librarian and then hospital librarian before joining the faculty at Plattsburgh in 1994. Holly attended the national ACRL Institute for Information Literacy Immersion programs in 1999 and 2002, and earned a certificate in Fundamentals of Project Management, NYS version of PMBOK, 2014.

Scholarship:

She has published articles in College & Research Libraries News, The Reference Librarian, MC Journal: the Journal of Academic Media Librarianship, the Journal of Library Services for Distance Education, Public Services Quarterly, and the Journal of Library Administration, co-authored a book chapter on distance learning in Teaching the New Library to Today’s Users (2000), and the 5th edition of Information Literacy & Technology, (2013), an introductory textbook for undergraduate research. She has published classroom exercises in Let the Games Begin! Engaging students with interactive information literacy instruction (2011), Empowering Students II: Teaching Information Literacy Concepts with Hands-on and Minds-on Activities( 2004), and Teaching Information Literacy Concepts: Activities and frameworks from the field,(2001). Holly was a Fellow in the Plattsburgh State University Institute for Ethics in Public Life in 2003, studying academic integrity as an applied ethical value. She also conducted research in Cairo, Egypt for two months as a Fulbright Scholar, studying information literacy and librarianship at the University of Cairo in 2007.

Leadership and Honors:

Holly participated in the 2012 Harvard Institutes for Higher Education Leadership Institute for Academic Librarians. Her articles were selected for the Library Instruction Round Table’s (LIRT) list of top 20 instruction articles for 2011 and 2004. She received the SUNY Chancellors Award for Excellence in Librarianship in 2000.
