David M. Demers
CIO – SUNY Buffalo State
Joining SUNY Buffalo State as CIO in July 2015, Demers leads the Information Services and Systems division comprised of Computing and Technology Services, Instructional Resources, E. H. Butler Library and the Project Management Office. He is responsible for providing vision and leadership for the technology, library and information services necessary to support the College’s strategic initiatives and overall mission. Leveraging a shared governance approach, David and his team of division leaders works closely with various stakeholder groups across campus to define the technology and information roadmap for the campus, prioritize projects and initiatives to transform the academic and administrative environments through the effective use of technology and to allocate the resources necessary to achieve these goals. Credentials and Experience:
Demers earned his B.S. in Biological Sciences and Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology at the University of California at Riverside. Beginning his career as a member of the faculty, he has since worked in higher education administration for over 15 years. Prior to his appointment at SUNY Buffalo State, he served as Chief Operating Officer for The American Women’s College and as Vice President for Academic and Administrative Technology at Bay Path University located in Longmeadow, MA. Prior to that, Demers has held administrative positions leading instructional technology and online learning at the University of Hartford (Hartford, CT), University of Connecticut Health Center (Farmington, CT) and Sacred Heart University (Fairfield, CT).
Scholarship and Honors:
Demers has authored or co-authored several textbook chapters and peer-reviewed articles highlighting research conducted on instructional technologies. He was awarded a $3.5M grant from the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education to develop a novel social online learning platform driven by the power of learning analytics.
